After an agonisingly long wait, Hyundai has finally joined the bandwagon of sub-4 metre SUV makers. Yes, the Hyundai Venue has a price list. It starts from Rs 6.50 lakh and goes all the way up to Rs 11.105 lakh (ex-showroom India). Pre-bookings for the Venue officially opened on May 2, 2019, with the minimum token amount set at Rs 21,000.
The Venue is available in a total of four main trim levels – E, S, SX and SX+. The SX trim is also on offer in two more variations – SX Dual Tone (self-explanatory!) and SX (O). As far as engine-transmission combinations are available, a total of four are on offer. Two out of those four – the 1.2-litre petrol MT (5-speed) and the 1.4-litre diesel MT (6-speed) – have been lifted from the Elite i20. The remaining two consists of a debuting engine – a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbo-petrol – which is available with a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed, dual-clutch AT – a segment first.
Time to inject some numbers. The 1.2-litre petrol and the 1.4-litre diesel engines are good for 83PS/115Nm and 90PS/220Nm, respectively. The smallest engine in the Venue’s portfolio packs the most punch. It is tuned to produce 120PS/172Nm. In comparison to Ford’s EcoBoost engine, which is also a 1.0-litre unit, Hyundai’s debutant has 5PS less power but 2Nm more torque. Mileage figures for the Venue are promising too – 1.2 petrol-MT: 17.52kmpl; 1.4-litre diesel-MT: 23.7kmpl; 1.0-litre petrol-MT: 18.27kmpl; and 1.0-litre petrol-AT: 18.15kmpl.
As far as the list of feature goes, it includes LED DRLs, 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, six airbags, 60:40 split rear seat, smart key with engine start/stop functionality, an electric sunroof, a rear-view camera and electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs. Additionally, the Venue brings a number of segment-first features. That list includes an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with high-def resolution and support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, projector fog lamps, wireless mobile charger and a built-in air purifier. The headline, of course, is Hyundai’s BlueLink technology which, apart from enhancing safety and security of the SUV, also offers location-based services and vehicle relationship management.
The Hyundai Venue is available in a total of seven single shades and three dual-tone finishes. Three new colours – Denim Blue, Lava Orange and Deep Forest – are part of the former category. The latter one comprises of Denim Blue with Polar White roof, Polar White with Phantom Black roof and Lava Orange with Phantom Black roof. In India, the Hyundai Venue will compete with the Ford EcoSport (Rs 7.83-11.90 lakh), Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza (Rs 7.68-10.65 lakh), Tata Nexon (Rs 6.49-10.90 lakh), Honda WR-V (Rs 7.84-10.48 lakh) and two Mahindra SUVs – the recently refreshed TUV300 (Rs 8.49-10.50 lakh) and the Ssangyong Tivoli-based XUV300 (Rs 7.90-11.99 lakh).
