Saar: Only 50 units of it will ever be made and prices will start at around 900,000 euros.

Two of the biggest names in the world of automobiles are celebrating their fiftieth anniversaries. One is Italdesign, which has produced some of the best-looking cars that the world has ever seen, and the other is the Nissan GT-R nameplate. Okay, Nissan is bumping up the celebrations by around a year because technically, the GT-R will complete its fiftieth anniversary next year. But there is a reason and it is called the Nissan GT-R50 By Italdesign. The prototype was unveiled at the end of last month and will make its world debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on July 12, 2018.

Nissan and Italdesign wanted to go all out on designing and engineering the GT-R. And they have. The estimated starting price is around 900,000 euros, which on our shores translates to nearly Rs 7.28 crores. The ‘50’ tag suffixing GT-R is to remind that that car was conceived on its fiftieth anniversary and only 50 units will ever be made. Each unit will be tailored for each customer and that asking price will vary on the kind of expensive modifications the customer asks for.

Nissan says that the GT-R50 was developed, engineered and built by Italdesign. On the design front, the changes include a pronounced bulge on the hood, stretched LED headlights, a lowered roofline, an adjustable rear spoiler and prominent “samurai blade” cooling outlets behind the front wheels. Most of the paintwork is completed in what Nissan likes to call Liquid Kinetic Grey, with contrasting Energetic Sigma Gold anniversary highlights. On the whole, the car’s exterior looks like it is made out of gold and has been covered with a subtle grey shade.

Inside the cabin, the 50 years celebrations continue with two different carbon fibre finishes covering most of the centre console, instrument panel and door linings. The seats are draped in a combination of black Alcantara and fine black Italian leather and there are several gold-coloured accents to match the exterior exuberance.

As for the performance, the Nissan GT-R50 By Italdesign is powerful than the standard car. The same 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 has been tweaked to produce 720PS of power and 780Nm of torque. Compared to the 2018 Nissan GT-R NISMO, the car it is based on, you get 120PS more power. But when you compare those performance figures to the standard Nissan GT-R, those figures are 150PS and 143Nm more. To keep things in control, Italdesign injected Bilstein suspension damping system and upgraded Brembo brakes.

So, there you have it. Spectacular design is truly matched by an equally spectacular spec-sheet. Since only 50 units will be made, chances for it being spotted on the go are extremely less. But that is the case with such celebratory editions of cars, isn’t it?!

A car nutter by heart. A hopeless engineer by education. Gunning for one goal - simplify cars.
