Almost everything about the Tata Harrier was revealed in December last year. However, we’ll still brush-up some of the important facts and figures about this important new product for the homegrown automaker. Underneath the bonnet is a BS IV-compliant 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine which is sourced from FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles). In essence, it is the same unit that does duty in the Jeep Compass. For the Harrier, Tata Motors has slapped on the term Kryotec to give the proven power-plant a new identity and has set it up to produce 140PS/350Nm. Transmission duties are handled by a 6-speed manual unit which feeds the power to the front wheels only.

Unfortunately, that is the only engine-transmission combination that Tata Motors is offering. The Harrier is available in four variants – XE, XM, XT and XZ. The standard list of features includes projector headlamps, protective plastic cladding, dual airbags, rear parking sensors, ABS with EBD, seat belt reminder for front passengers and speed-sensing auto door locking. The range-topping trim brings in goodies like automatic climate control, auto headlamps and wipers, dual function LED DRLs with turn indicators, 17-inch alloy wheels, 6 airbags, an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay mated to a 9-speaker JBL sound system, a 7.0-inch colour TFT display in the instrument cluster and multiple terrain response and drive modes.

The Tata Harrier is available in five colours – Calisto Copper, Ariel Silver, Themisto Gold, Orcus White and Telesto Grey. The newcomer is a direct rival to the likes of the Jeep Compass, Nissan Kicks, Hyundai Creta and the Mahindra XUV500. Will you opt for the Harrier over its rivals? Let us know in the comments below.
