Saar: Skoda is offering Superb Sportline with petrol and diesel engine options.

Skoda Auto India has silently launched the sportiest-looking iteration of its flagship sedan – the Superb. To put all that in simple words, we have been bestowed with the Skoda Superb Sportline. It is available in two variants – 1.8 TSI AT and 2.0 TDI AT. While the former is priced at Rs 28.99 lakh, that latter will cost you Rs 31.49 lakh (both prices are ex-showroom). Price-wise, the Sportline variants fall right in between the Style and Laurin & Klement variants. To be precise, go for any Sportline variant, petrol or diesel, and you’d be paying Rs 1.5 lakh more than the corresponding Style AT variant and the same amount less than the Laurin & Klement AT variant.

So, what’s unique about the new entrant? As the name suggests, it has been launched to cater to a very niche segment. In other words, it is for someone who wants some sporty character in his/her otherwise subtle sedan. And to achieve that, Skoda has equipped the Sportline with a bunch of cosmetic changes inside and out. On the latter, you get darkened fog lamps, Drakon dual-tone, 17-inch alloy wheels and Sportline branding on the front fenders. Apart from those, the front grille, boot-lid-mounted spoiler, OVRM caps, side door strips and window frames have been finished in glossy black.

Inside the cabin, the all-black theme’s sporty charm is accentuated with body-coloured inserts on the dashboard and the door trim. And to add that icing on top of the cake, you get sports seats and a sports steering with silver stitching. On the features front, the Superb Sportline gets carbon décor with LED ambient lighting, Bi-Xenon headlights with automatic levelling and curve light assistant, panoramic sunroof, 12-way electrically adjustable front seats with memory functions, three-zone climate control and an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system which comes mated to an 8-speaker sound system.

If you want to go for the petrol-powered Superb Sportline, you will get a 1.8-litre turbocharged mill that puts out 180PS/250Nm. The diesel engine, on the other hand, has a cubic capacity of 2.0 litres and generates 177PS/350Nm. Both power-plants come mated to an automatic transmission only. However, the petrol engine gets a 7-speed unit, and the diesel makes do with a 6-speed gearbox. Skoda will offer the Superb Sportline in only three colours – Velvet Red Metallic, Steel Grey Uni and Moon White Metallic.

In India, the Skoda Superb competes with the likes of the Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord. The latter two are only available with a hybrid powertrain, and that’s something the Skoda Superb has never offered on our shores.
