It was inevitable, wasn’t it! After Volkswagen India announced that all its models would get dearer by up to 3 per cent from January 2019, Skoda Auto India has confirmed that from the same month, it will hike prices of all its models by up to 2 per cent. The main drivers behind this decision are increased input and freight costs on both domestic and import fronts.

In an official statement, Zac Hollis, director – sales, service and marketing, Skoda Auto India Pvt. Ltd. (SAIPL), said:

“There has been a surge in the cost of our inputs for production due to significant volatility in the global commodity prices and foreign exchange rates in recent times. Skoda Auto India has been absorbing these incremental costs all this while but is now considering a price increase of up to 2 per cent with effect from January 1, 2019, across its model range.”

The Indian arm of the Czech carmaker also took the opportunity to introduce ‘Buy Now and Pay in 2020’ campaign. The new campaign comprises a twelve-month EMI holiday program for customers. They can also avail other schemes such as 100 per cent on-road financing, interest rates as low as 8.99 per cent, special EMI packages and benefits ranging from Rs 60,000 to Rs 1 lakh.

Apart from the above-mentioned offers, Skoda is also offering additional benefits with the Rapid and the Superb. The former is currently being offered with a loyalty bonus and exchange bonus of Rs 50,000 each. The latter, on the other hand, is available with a loyalty bonus of Rs 50,000. The Superb, which received a sporty variant in October this year, is also available in the Corporate Edition which is priced at Rs 23.99 lakh (ex-showroom India).
