From March 2019, BMW-owned British brand Mini will start retailing an updated pair of the Cooper JCW (John Cooper Works) – hatchback and convertible – in Europe. The so-called 2019 versions will come with some minor design changes and a revamped options list. More importantly, the duo will get the same petrol engine with a particulate filter. Thanks to that, the emissions count has dropped, and both JCW versions meet the stringent Euro 6d TEMP norms. Mini says that the cleaner engine setup has no effect on the fuel consumption or CO2 (carbon dioxide) values for the duo.

The JCW versions of the Mini Cooper carry the same engine. It is a 2.0-litre, turbo-petrol motor that puts out 231PS of power and 320Nm of torque. As standard, the engine will come mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The setup is enough for the hatchback and convertible versions to hit 100kmph from a standstill in 6.3 seconds and 6.6 seconds respectively. Both models can be had with an optional 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission.

In terms of design, the refreshed models come with taillights which feature the Union Jack pattern, 17-inch JCW light-alloy wheels and the JCW aerodynamics kit, which seems the same as before. Additionally, the duo feature sports brake system, LED headlamps, sports suspension and JCW-spec sports seats.

No Mini model is complete without an extensive list of optional extras. And next year’s JCW-spec Mini Cooper will be no exception. For the exterior, customers will have the Piano Black Exterior option which brings in high-gloss surrounds on the grille, headlamps and the taillamps. For those who like such inserts on the inside can opt for the Interior Style Piano Black package which includes a back-lit trim area on the front passenger side. Other options include wireless mobile phone charging, the Mini logo projection on the driver’s side, several Mini Connected digital services and Mini Yours Customised range.

The pricing for the refreshed models has not been revealed yet. However, they will attract a premium over their pre-facelift versions. Mini might introduce the updated Cooper JCW in India, but that will only happen by the end of next year.
