Saar: With two engine and transmission options each, the new Honda Amaze is available in twelve variants.

The new Honda Amaze is finally amongst us. With introductory prices starting at Rs 5.60 lakh and going all the way up to Rs 9.0 lakh (ex-showroom), it sits rather comfortably within its segment. Into its second generation, the Honda Amaze brings a lot of artillery to take on the competition, chief amongst which is the diesel-CVT combination. Speaking of which, a total of twelve variants are on offer, covering two engine and transmission options each. Before we get to the techy stuff, let’s quickly how these variants are priced:

VXRs 7,57,900-Rs 8,67,900-

As you can see, the CVT unit is offered in just the middle-range variants – S and V. Price wise, the CVT-equipped petrol and diesel variants are Rs 90,000 and Rs 80,000 dearer than their manual counterparts respectively. These prices will be applicable to only the first 20,000 bookings that Honda receives for the new Amaze. In all probability, prices will be hiked as soon as that bookings barrier is breached. Before we dive into variant-wise features, let’s see how the new Amaze differs from its predecessor in terms of dimensions and mileage.

The new Honda Amaze is available in five colour shades for the exterior – Radiant Red, White Orchid Pearl, Lunar Silver Metallic, Golden Brown Metallic and Modern Steel Metallic. As far as standard warranty is concerned. Honda has your back for 3 years/unlimited kilometres. Of course, you can purchase extended warranties for up to 5 years (3 years standard + 2 years additional).

Time to get ourselves indulged in the variant-wise specifications. As before, we will be listing only the main features which can potentially act as deal makers or breakers for the Honda Amaze.

Variant – E

The entry-level variant of the new Honda Amaze is much better equipped than the one offered by its predecessor. The main features include:

  • Dual Airbags
  • Front seatbelts with pretensioner and load limiter
  • ABS with EBD
  • Rear parking sensors
  • Front 12V socket
  • All four power windows
  • Driver side windows with one touch down
  • ISOFIX anchorages
  • Manual AC
  • 14-inch steel wheels

Needless to say, all the variant-wise features we mention will be applicable to both the diesel and petrol variants. In the entry-level spec, the only real misses include a music system, central locking, speed sensing auto door lock, powered ORVMs, height adjustable driver’s seat and tilt steering adjust.

Variant – S

Here’s the list of main features that the ‘S’ variant gets over and above the ‘E’ variant:

  • Body coloured door handles and ORVM covers
  • Full wheel covers
  • LED Turn indicators on ORVMs
  • 2DIN music system with Aux-in/Bluetooth/USB/Radio
  • Steering mounted audio controls
  • Central locking and keyless entry
  • Speed sensing auto door lock
  • Electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs
  • Front and Rear 12V sockets
  • Tilt steering
  • Height adjustable driver’s seat
  • Adjustable front seat headrests

In this variant, the Honda Amaze does offer good value considering that it covers almost all the voids left by the entry-level variant. The ‘S’ variant should be good enough for someone who wants a comfortable, all-rounded package without bursting the budget bubble.

Variant – V

The list of standout features, over the ‘S’ variant, include:

  • Rear windshield defogger
  • Headlamp-integrated LED Position lamps
  • Front fog lamps
  • 15-inch alloy wheels
  • Front and rear mudguards
  • Bigger MID screen with outside temperature and instantaneous fuel consumption feeds
  • Paddle shift (Petrol CVT only)
  • Automatic climate control
  • Push button start/stop
  • Smartkey system with keyless remote

The ‘V’ variant brings in a lot more comfort factor into the equation. Considering the price difference between the ‘S’ and ‘V’ variants, we would recommend that you stick with the ‘S’ and then, if needed, get the additional stuff added from third-party vendors. It is also worth mentioning that V-spec diesel-CVT is the most expensive variant of the lot and it doesn’t get features like cruise control, touchscreen infotainment and a rear camera.

Variant – VX

Here’s what the VX variant gets and the V doesn’t:

  • Rear camera with guidelines
  • 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment
  • Built-in GPS navigation
  • Support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
  • Voice command system
  • Infra-red remote control
  • Two USB ports
  • Steering mounted voice controls
  • Cruise control
  • Driver’s side window one touch up/down

If you aren’t satisfied with the ‘S’ variant, we’d recommend that you skip the ‘V’ variant and go for the range-topper, unless you want a CVT in your life. The price difference between the two variants is Rs 58,000 and for that money, Honda is offering a lot more than you’d expect. Sure, most of the stuff is related to the infotainment system but when you consider the inclusions of a rear camera and cruise control, the package does sum up to deliver good value.

Before we close, here’s the price-list of the Honda’s main rivals:
