Saar: It will make its world premiere during the ADAC Zurich 24th Race at Germany’s Nürburgring this weekend.

Mercedes-Benz has revealed that the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe will be launched in September 2018. And to celebrate the launch, the company will be offering an Edition 1 model of the same car but for a limited time of just 12 months. That, ladies and gentlemen, will be called the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4MATIC+ Edition 1. Frankly, that’s one of the longest and most complicated car names we’ve ever come across.

Essentially, the Edition 1 is an aerodynamically enhanced and more hardcore version of the standard Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe. On the outside, the Edition 1 gets a larger front splitter, integrated flics in the front apron, demand-optimised diffuser and a fixed rear spoiler. However, the blade of the rear spoiler can be adjusted mechanically to increase downforce. Mercedes says that this limited edition variant, which will be available only for the range-topping AMG GT 63 S 4MATIC+ model, will be offered with three body paints to choose from – graphite grey magno, diamond white bright and graphite grey metallic. If you want decals (stripes) on the outside, Mercedes-Benz will offer you AMG-spec ones for the side sill panels, bonnet, roof and tailgate. The car will only be offered with 21-inch AMG cross-spoke forged alloy wheels, finished in matt black.

No points for guessing, the interior aura will be tweaked too. As standard, AMG Performance seats with memory package and upholstery in nappa leather in magma grey or black with yellow contrasting stitching will be offered. The same colour theme will be on the AMG Performance steering wheel, which will also house “Edition 1” badging. Additionally, the interior trim will be AMG-spec matt carbon-fibre which will be contrasted with yellow seatbelts. If that’s not enough, there will be illuminated door sills and Edition-specific floor mats in black with AMG branding.

Of course, there are some optional extras to choose from. The list includes high-performance ceramic brakes, a more hardcore carbon-fibre package for the exterior and, what Mercedes calls, a High-Class rear seat.

As far as the powertrain is concerned, it remains identical to the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4MATIC+. That means the 4.0-litre, twin-turbo V8 puts out 639PS of power and 900Nm of torque. Mated to the engine is a 9-speed AMG Speedshift automatic gearbox which transfers the power to the road via the 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system. Even though the car weighs over 2-tonnes unladen, the powertrain is enough to catapult it to 100kmph from zero in just 3.2 seconds. Top-speed, Mercedes-Benz claims, is clocked at 315kmph.

The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4MATIC+ Edition 1 will be available to order from summer 2018. The company will start delivering the cars to customers from September 2018.
