Saar: Although when and where are the questions which still doesn’t have any answers.

Maruti Suzuki’s first production plant in Gurugram, Haryana, will soon be relocated in order to address the congestion problems plaguing the city. However, it is still unknown when or where the process of relocation will happen. The company’s decision makers have already met with the government of Haryana to come up with a new site for relocation. Maruti Suzuki already has a plant in Manesar and would prefer to get a piece of land from the Haryana government around the same area.

The Gurugram plant is located in Udyog Vihar Phase IV. The city, which is in close proximity to the country’s capital, has seen a rapid growth in terms of population, traffic flow and infrastructure development in the recent years. With Maruti Suzuki’s Gurugram plant right in the heart of the city, local residents and authorities want congestion issues due to the factory addressed at the earliest. It is also an inconvenience for the carmaker itself as commercial vehicles carrying raw materials inside the premises and finished products outside of it has been a lot trickier.

Currently, Maruti Suzuki’s Gurugram plant rolls out popular models such as the Alto and WagonR. The process of relocation would have to be a smooth one as both those models are part of the bestselling ones in India. Apart from its plants in Manesar and Gurugram, the company also has a facility in Gujarat. The facility went operational in January 2017 and will be further expanded, in phases, to increase the per annum production capacity. The Indo-Japanese carmaker is tipped to invest at least Rs 9,000 crore to increase its production capacity in the near future.

It was in the year 1983 when Maruti Suzuki rolled out its first-ever vehicle – the legendary Maruti 800 – from the floor of its manufacturing plant in Gurugram, Haryana. 35 years down the line and Maruti Suzuki isn’t just the largest carmaker in the country but also the one that has over 50 per cent of the market share. That’s astonishing in an automotive market like India which is growing at an incredible rate. A few days ago, Maruti Suzuki announced that it has ramped up the production of the hot-selling Baleno in order to bring down the waiting periods.
