Maruti Suzuki launched the all-new WagonR in India yesterday. Priced between Rs 4.19 lakh and Rs 5.69 lakh, the new tallboy is available in three trim levels, covering two engine and transmission options each. Compared to its predecessor, the third-gen WagonR is much bigger on the outside as well as on the inside. That’s courtesy of Maruti Suzuki’s fifth-gen HEARTECT platform which has also upped the safety quotient of the car. Here’s the variant-wise price list:

Maruti Suzuki WagonR Price List (ex-showroom Delhi)

Trim1.0-litre Petrol1.2-litre Petrol
LxiRs 4.19 Lakh-
VxiRs 4.69 LakhRs 4.89 Lakh
Vxi AGSRs 5.16 LakhRs 5.36 Lakh
Zxi- Rs 5.22 Lakh
Zxi AGS-Rs 5.69 Lakh

The new WagonR is available with a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine and a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol mill. While the former pumps out 68PS/90Nm, the latter is good for 83PS/113Nm. Both engines can be coupled with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT (automated manual transmission). Maruti Suzuki claims that the smaller engine can return 22.5kmpl and the bigger one tops out at 21.5kmpl. The mileage figures are identical for both the transmission options.

Maruti Suzuki is offering the new WagonR in six colours – Superior White, Silky Silver, Magma Grey, Autumn Orange, Nutmeg Brown and Poolside Blue. Its list of direct rivals includes the Hyundai Santro, Datsun Go and the Tata Tiago.

With those vitals out of the way, let’s get cracking on what features the new WagonR gets in each of its trim levels. We’ll be focusing only on those features which car make or break a deal.

Trim – Lxi | Variants available: 1.0L MT

Mentioned below are the main set of features that the car gets in its base-spec:

  • Dual-tone interiors
  • Front cabin lamps
  • Gear shift indicator
  • Readouts for Fuel consumption (instantaneous and average) and distance to empty
  • Headlamp on warning
  • 12V accessory socket
  • Front power windows
  • AC with heater
  • Driver’s side airbag
  • ABS with EBD
  • Seat belt reminder with a buzzer
  • Speed alert system
  • Rear parking sensors
  • Roof antenna
  • 13-inch rims
  • Optional passenger side airbag
  • Optional front seat belts with pre-tensioners and force limiters

In this trim, the WagonR will only appeal to those who are on a tight budget, want something reliable and are happy with a basic feature list. Indian cabbies ring to mind?!

Trim – Vxi | Variants available: 1.0L MT, 1.0L AGS, 1.2L MT and 1.2L AGS

Here’s the list of features that new WagonR gets in this trim over and above the base one:

  • 14-inch rims
  • 60:40 split rear seat
  • Manual day/night IRVM
  • Tilt steering adjust
  • Gear position indicator (AGS only)
  • Remote keyless entry
  • All four power windows
  • Rear parcel tray
  • 2-speaker music system with Bluetooth, USB and AUX support
  • Steering mounted audio control (with 1.2L variants only)
  • Speed sensitive auto door lock
  • Security alarm
  • Full wheel covers
  • Electrically adjustable ORVMs

Compared to the Lxi 1.0L MT, the Vxi 1.0L MT is Rs 50,000 dearer. For that added money, you get a bunch of convenience-enhancing features, more safety tech and a music system. In our books, the asking price is just about justifiable. Obviously, if you want the bigger engine or the AMT option, you will have to spend more.

Trim – Zxi | Variants available: 1.2L MT and 1.2L AGS

So, what does the tallboy get in its fully-loaded trim over its mid-spec one? Here’s the list:

  • Tachometer
  • Rear defogger
  • Front seat undertray and rear back pocket for the front passenger seat
  • Rear wiper with washer
  • Electrically folding ORVMs with integrated indicators
  • Front fog lamps
  • Passenger side airbag as standard
  • Front seat belts with pre-tensioners and force limiters as standard
  • Steering mounted voice control
  • 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay

For all those additional features, Maruti Suzuki is asking for an additional Rs 33,000 over the Vxi trim. Is it worth spending the extra money? Definitely. This variant will especially appeal to those who are not just loyal to Maruti Suzuki but also to the WagonR brand.
