Saar: The new-gen MPV is available in four trim levels, covering two engine and transmission options each.

Yesterday, Maruti Suzuki launched the all-new Ertiga in India with an introductory price list starting at Rs 7.44 lakh and going all the way up to Rs 10.90 lakh (both prices are ex-showroom). Bookings for the new-gen MPV commenced on November 14, 2018, with a minimum token amount of Rs 11,000. It is available in a total of four trim levels – L, V, Z and Z+ – covering two engine and transmission options each. Before we get to those, let’s get the generic stuff out of the way. Here’s the variant-wise price list, compared with that of its predecessor:

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga Introductory Price List (ex-showroom)

VariantPrice (New)Price (Old)Approx Difference
LXiRs 7.44 LakhRs 6.34 LakhRs 1.10 Lakh
VXiRs 8.16 LakhRs 7.66 LakhRs 50,000
VXi ATRs 9.18 LakhRs 8.68 LakhRs 50,000
ZXiRs 8.99 LakhRs 8.27 LakhRs 72,000
ZXi ATRs 9.95 Lakh--
ZXi+Rs 9.50 LakhRs 8.85 LakhRs 65,000
LDiRs 8.84 LakhRs 8.79 LakhRs 5,000
VDiRs 9.56 LakhRs 9.58 Lakh- Rs 2,000
ZDiRs 10.39 LakhRs 9.95 LakhRs 44,000
ZDi+Rs 10.90 LakhRs 10.69 LakhRs 21,000

As you can see, the difference between old and new petrol-powered variants is steeper than that between the diesel-fed ones. That’s primarily because the new Ertiga comes with a new petrol engine, whereas the diesel that it gets is the same as before. Speaking of engines, the petrol mill is the same as the one that debuted with the Ciaz facelift earlier this year. Its 1.5-litre cubic capacity pumps out 105PS/138Nm. The diesel, on the other hand, is a 1.3-litre motor with 90PS/200Nm on tap.

Both engines are offered with a 5-speed manual transmission but only the petrol engine comes with the option of a 4-speed automatic. As far as mileage is concerned, the petrol-manual, petrol-automatic and diesel-manual return 19.34kmpl, 18.69kmpl and 25.47kmpl respectively. As for the exterior colours, a total of five options are available – Pearl Metallic Auburn Red, Metallic Magma Grey, Pearl Metallic Oxford Blue, Pearl Arctic White and Metallic Silky Silver.

Time to list what the new Maruti Suzuki Ertiga gets in each of its trims. As before, we’ll be listing only those features which have the potential to make or break a deal.

Trim – L | Variants available – LXi and LDi

Here is the list of main features that the new Ertiga gets in its entry-level trim:

  • MID (Diesel) / MID with coloured TFT (Petrol)
  • Manual AC
  • Accessory socket in the front
  • 60:40 split second-row seats with slide and recline
  • 50:50 split third-row seats with recline
  • Air-cooled cup holders
  • All four power windows
  • Dual airbags
  • ABS with EBD
  • ISOFIX anchorages
  • Rear parking sensors
  • High-speed alert system
  • Projector headlamps
  • Taillamps with LED
  • Front seatbelts with pre-tensioners and force limiters
  • Seat belt reminder for the front row

As you’d expect, the Ertiga, in this trim, checks all the basic boxes for convenience and safety. We feel that it could have done with a set of rear AC vents, accessory sockets for all rows, day & night IRVM and passenger-side sun visor, at the least.

Trim – V | Variants available – VXi, VXi AT and VDi

Listed below are the main features that the new Ertiga gets in this trim, over and above the entry-level one:

  • Armrest in second row
  • Rear AC vents
  • Remote keyless entry
  • Day & night IRVM
  • Accessory socket in second row
  • Electrically adjustable and foldable OVRMs
  • Audio system with Bluetooth/AUX/USB
  • 4 speakers
  • Multifunction steering wheel
  • ESP and Hill Hold control (AT only)
  • Full wheel covers
  • Body coloured door handles and OVRMs
  • Turn indicators on OVRMs

The price difference between the L and V trims (manual transmission) is about Rs 72,000. If you want the automatic transmission, you will have shell out an additional Rs 1.02 lakh. We think that the additional amount is justifiable. Expect the V trim to be the most popular in India’s taxi scene.

Trim – Z | Variants available – ZXi, ZXi AT, ZDi

The manual Z trim costs approximately Rs 83,000 more than the manual V trim. Here’s what you get for the extra money:

  • Wooden finish inside the cabin
  • Sliding armrest with utility box in the front
  • Outside temperature gauge
  • Automatic climate control
  • Rear defogger
  • Accessory sockets in all three rows
  • 2 tweeters
  • Height adjustable front seat belts
  • Front fog lamps
  • 15-inch alloy wheels
  • Rear wiper with washer
  • Height adjustable driver’s seat

If you want the automatic transmission and the best possible kit, you have to settle for this trim. The real misses include a factory-fitted infotainment system and a rear-view camera. But then, you can always get good aftermarket units installed. For others, the asking price isn’t bad.

Trim – Z+ | Variants available – ZXi+ and ZDi+

Here’s the additional kit that you get in the top-spec Maruti Suzuki Ertiga:

  • Leather-wrapped steering wheel with wooden inserts
  • 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support
  • Inbuilt GPS navigation
  • Voice command system
  • Rear parking camera

Price difference between this and the second-to-top trim? Approximately Rs 51,000. We suggest that you can skip this variant and get the required gizmos installed from an aftermarket shop. You will end up saving a noticeable amount of money.
