Saar: The new model year derivatives are up for grabs, but only in the UK as of now.

British car marque Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has revealed updates that the 2019 models of the Range Rover Velar and the F-Pace have received. It is no surprise that Jaguar Land Rover decided to reveal the updates for both the cars on the same day. Underneath their fancy bodies, both cars are essentially the same. In fact, the company goofed up in releasing the information too. We downloaded the press kit from Land Rover’s website and the word document in the zip folder was for the Jaguar F-Pace. Sorry JLR but we couldn’t resist the temptation of mentioning this here. Anyway, several updates are common for them. Let’s get them out of the way first.

The driver assistance systems in both SUVs have been joined by an adaptive cruise control with steering assist operation. The latter uses the adaptive cruise control system and lane centring support to bring the vehicle within the white lines on the road. It works with speeds ranging between 0-180kmph. The adaptive cruise control gets on with its party-piece of maintaining a set distance with the vehicle in front.

The adaptive cruise control also joins hands with stop & go functionality which, as the name suggests, helps the car stop automatically if the vehicle in front stops. The start function, however, is a bit clever as it doesn’t come to life as soon as the vehicle in front sets off. In fact, the Jaguar F-Pace or the Range Rover Velar will only start if the driver gives an input by pressing the accelerator. There’s also radar-based high-speed emergency braking, which works between 10-160kmph.

As standard both the Jaguar F-Pace and the Range Rover Velar will come with a rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, driver condition monitor, emergency braking and lane keep assist. For both SUVs, the size of the fuel tank has been increased from 63-litres to 82-litres. But this increase in fuel capacity has been done for two engines only – the 2.0-litre Ingenium petrol and the 3.0-litre supercharged V6. JLR says all petrol engines are now equipped with particulate filters to make them cleaner than before.

With those common details out of the way, let’s focus on stuff which is new on both models but isn’t shared between the two.

2019 Jaguar F-Pace

It will now be offered with new optional safety packs:

  • Park Pack: Includes park assist, a 360-degree parking aid and rear traffic monitor
  • Drive Pack: Comes with adaptive cruise control, stop & go functionality, blind spot assist and high-speed emergency braking
  • Driver Assist Pack: Gets all the goodies from Park and Drive packs and includes 360-degree surround camera and adaptive cruise control with steering assist

All Jaguar F-Pace variants will now come with Touch Pro infotainment with a 10-inch touchscreen as standard. What will be optionally available are the slimline sports seats featuring 14-way adjustment. The interior rearview camera has been put on a diet and is now frameless. Other features include back-lit door sills, metal pedals, suede cloth headlining and some carbon fibre door panels.

The recently launched SVR variant of the F-Pace has also joined the 2019 model range. If you want an in-depth dose of it, click here.

2019 Range Rover Velar

The Range Rover Velar, which was launched in India in January this year, bagged World Car Design of the Year at the World Car Awards. With the 2019 model, the Velar is set to cater a lot more customers than before. How? Well, that’ll be courtesy of two new derivatives of existing engines which will now be on offer.

The 3.0-litre V6 diesel has received the D275 badge. It will produce 275PS of power and 625Nm of torque. This engine sits comfortably between the D180 and the D300 diesel engines. The other new engine tune is for the 3.0-litre supercharged V6 petrol. The new P340 tune will produce 340PS of power and 450Nm of torque. It will be placed above the P300 iteration of the same engine.

Like the Jaguar F-Pace, the Range Rover Velar has also received an enhanced list of optional extras. Those include the adaptive dynamics tech and four-corner air suspension. The latter can be opted for with all models with V6 engines, the 4-cylinder 240PS diesel and the 300PS petrol. Compared to coil springs, which come as standard in the Range Rover Velar, the air suspension will significantly improve the ride quality.

That’s all there is to 2019 models of the Jaguar F-Pace and the Range Rover Velar. The rest of the recipe for the models remains unchanged. India will be the recipient of these 2019 models of both these SUVs too. But when will that happen though, remains unknown.
