Saar: The rise in prices will range between Rs 20,000 to Rs 50,000.

The Indian arm of the Japanese automaker Isuzu has announced that from September 1, 2018, its range of D-Max pick-up trucks will cost more. The company claims that the hike in prices is expected to be between 2 and 3 per cent. In other words, the rise in prices will range between Rs 20,000 to Rs 50,000 (ex-showroom). The increasing input and distribution costs have led Isuzu to pass on the expenses to the end customer.

Isuzu currently sells three different variants of the pick-up – D-Max, S-Cab and the V-Cross. While the former two are meant for the commercial segment, only the V-Cross can be purchased as a personal vehicle. All three versions of the pick-up are powered by a 2.5-litre turbo-diesel engine. However, the commercial variants have 78PS/176Nm on tap, whereas the V-Cross has 134PS/320Nm on offer. The D-Max V-Cross is available in two trims – Standard and High. While the former is currently priced at Rs 14.32 lakh, the latter carries a price tag of Rs 15.82 lakh.

It was the V-Cross that introduced the fifth digit in production figures for Isuzu’s SriCity plant in July this year. Apart from the pick-up range, Isuzu also retails the MU-X SUV in India. Unlike the pick-ups, the MU-X is powered by a 3.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbo-diesel engine that puts out 177PS of power and 380Nm of torque. Like the V-Cross, the MU-X is available in just two variants – 4×2 AT and 4×4 AT. They are priced at Rs 24.84 lakh and Rs 26.80 lakh respectively.

Isuzu India Targeting 60 Per Cent Growth This Year

Isuzu began its Indian innings in August 2012. Its own plant in SriCity, Andhra Pradesh, went operational in August 2016. Apart from manufacturing units for the Indian market, the plant builds models for neighbouring countries such as Nepal and Bhutan. Up until August 2016, the Japanese carmaker was manufacturing its vehicles at Hindustan Motors facility near Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Presently, Isuzu has 35 authorised dealerships in the country and that count is on the rise.
