Saar: It will be available on a built-to-order basis with limited global production.

If you are an enthusiast of Marvel’s famous Iron Man franchise, the Hyundai Kona Iron Man Edition is something right up your alley. The special edition, which will be available on a built-to-order basis only, broke cover during the 2018 San Diego Comin-Con.

So, what has Hyundai done to create the Kona Iron Man Edition? On the outside, the compact SUV has a unique front-lighting signature, including a customised DRL enclosure that resembles the facemask and eye shape of the Iron Man suit. Other bespoke design cues include an Iron Man mask motif on the roof, V-shaped hood garnish and Iron Man mask badging on the front fenders. If that’s not enough, the Hyundai Kona Iron Man Edition gets ‘Stark Industries’ decals on the lower fascia and rear doors, Iron Man-engraved headlamp internals, custom 18-inch alloy wheels with Iron Man mask centre caps, an Iron Man engraving on the D-pillars and a dark chrome grille. To top it all, the entire SUV has been finished in an aggressive combination of matte grey and Iron Man red colours.

The whole Iron Man theme is carried to the inside of the cabin as well. There’s a special head’s up display which, in the pictures at least, looks like you are looking through the Iron Man’s mask. Apart from that, the gear lever knob has Iron Man marking, the seats have customised design and several panels have red accents to liven up the multi-grey coloured theme. For some additional Iron Man-inspired trickery, there’s Tony Stark’s signature on top of the passenger-side dashboard, the MID in the instrument cluster and the infotainment system have been customised to flaunt Iron Man graphics and the same pattern that appears on the gear lever are present in the speedometer and the tachometer.

Hyundai hasn’t revealed what powertrain will the Kona Iron Man Edition have. We think it will be available only with an internal combustion engine under the bonnet. That way when it moves on the road, it could emit some visual gases just like Iron Man does while flying.

The Hyundai Kona Iron Man Edition will enter production in December 2018 and the first units will be available in quarter one of next year. And what makes this derivative of the Kona really special, is that it will have a limited global production. The Hyundai Kona is coming to India too but only in its pure-electric form.
