Saar: The updates include a new dual-tone colour combo on the outside and an upgraded infotainment system on the inside.

Last week, we saw what the mid-life update of the Hyundai i20 Active looks like for the European market. Apart from the mechanicals, we suspected the same set of changes will come to India too. But we were wrong. Very wrong. With what can be called a hushed approach, Hyundai Motor India has mildly updated the recipe of the i20 Active in India. And based on what we saw on the European-spec model, the India-spec model hardly features anything distinguishable than before.

First of all, stop straining your eyes to find anything new on the outside. Apart from a slightly reworked ‘Active’ badge at the rear and a new dual-tone body colour option (Marina Blue with Polar White roof), there’s absolutely nothing on the outside that has changed. Hyundai hasn’t even bothered to offer new alloy wheels or the LED taillamps, let alone the new boot lid design we saw on the Elite i20. Going back to the new dual-tone paint job, it is only available in the range-topping SX variant.

Inside the cabin, the 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment has been upgraded. It can now be controlled using an Android app-based remote and is mated to the Arkamys tuned sound system. Hyundai i20 Active’s cabin also features coloured accents on panels (AC vents and gear knob) and on the seats based on the exterior paint job. The front armrest can now slide back-and-forth and the rear passengers get an armest with cupholders too. Safety equipment has been upped too but only in the range-topper. The SX variant of the Hyundai i20 Active now comes with ISOFIX anchorages.

No points for guessing, there is no change in the powertrain department. The Hyundai i20 Active is offered with a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.4-litre diesel engine. While the former comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and produces 83PS/115Nm, the latter is coupled with a 6-speed manual gearbox and puts out 90PS/220Nm. Thankfully, Hyundai hasn’t changed the prices. Like the pre-facelift model, the updated i20 Active is available in seven variants – 4 petrol and 3 diesel. The petrol-powered variants range from Rs 7 lakh to Rs 8.66 lakh, the diesel-fed ones are priced between Rs 8.96 – 10.01 lakh (all prices are ex-showroom Delhi).
