Saar: The announcement came at the unveiling of a new, China-exclusive, EV Concept car.

It is small wonder why all the major carmakers choose China to make their big announcements. The People’s Republic is by far the biggest automotive market in the world. Japanese carmaker Honda joined that list of carmakers. At the 2018 Bejing Motor Show, it announced that at least 20 new electrified models will be presented before the end of 2025. Clearly, the idea is to keep pace with other major EV (electric vehicle) players in the market, such as Volvo Cars. At the same time, it wants to reduce the carbon footprint left by its conventional vehicles.

Apart from this announcement, Honda also introduced a new brand called Everus and with its first EV Concept. For now, it is simply christened as the Everus EV Concept. It is destined to become the first mass-produced EV model that Honda will sell exclusively in China. It is being co-developed by Honda Motor Shina Technology Co. Ltd. and GAC Honda Automobile Co. Ltd. Honda confirmed that this new EV will enter production soon enough to go on sale by the end of this year.

Other Honda cars which will also go on sale in China by the end of this year and are on display in Beijing include the Accord Hybrid and the Inspire Concept. While the former has made its Chinese premiere, the latter has popped up for the first time ever. If that wasn’t clear, the Inspire Concept made its world premiere in China.

As far as India is concerned, Honda will take some time before it is ready to launch its versions of electrified vehicles. It, like many others, wants a robust-enough infrastructure to support the existence of EVs in India. The company is currently gunning to launch its all-new Amaze sedan, which will be followed by the Civic and the CR-V as well.
