Saar: It will get the 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine from the now-defunct Force One.

Force Motors is all set to launch the third derivative of its rugged off-roader, the Gurkha. This one will be called Xtreme and we can confirm that, thanks to the leaked brochure. At least on paper, it seems that Force Motors is giving the old-school SUV a new lease of life. How? Let’s find out.

The other two variants of the Gurkha – Xplorer and Xpedition – are powered by a 2.6-litre diesel engine that produces 85PS/230Nm. The Xtreme will get a different engine – a 2.15-litre, 4-cylinder turbo-diesel. But don’t get disappointed because even though the Gurkha Xtreme will have over 400cc of lesser displacement to play with, it will pack more punch. To be precise, it will produce 140PS of power and 321Nm of torque.

Do those figures sound familiar? Yes, they do! In fact, those figures are nearly identical to the ones found in Gurkha’ bigger sibling, the now-defunct Force One. The only minute difference is that in the Force One, the same diesel engine produced 1PS more power. Transmission duties in the Gurkha Xtreme will be handled by a 5-speed manual transmission with a low range transfer case. To ensure that it doesn’t get stuck when the going gets tough, the Gurkha Xtreme will also house differential locks at the front and rear axles.

As far as dimensions go, the Gurkha Xtreme will be identical to the Gurkha Xplorer. On the inside, two seating configurations will be on offer – five + driver and seven + driver. By default, Force will equip the Gurkha Xtreme with 16-inch all terrain tyres with a 245/70 profile. Unlike the Xplorer though, the Xtreme will only be available with a 3-door layout.

Force Motors is expected to launch the Gurkha Xtreme either by the end of this month or early the next one. Needless to say that the Xtreme will be the most extreme in pricing as well. Expect an ex-showroom price in the region of Rs 11-12 lakh. The only vehicle that the Force Gurkha Xtreme has on its radar as a rival is the Mahindra Thar.
