It was only last week when we reported that BMW India has made some space for the new Z4 on its official website. Now, we have the prices and the detailed specifications of the two-seater convertible. In other words, the new BMW Z4 is officially on sale in India. As expected, it is available in two variants – sDrive20i and M40i. While the former’s pricing starts at Rs 64.9 lakh, the latter wears a price tag of Rs 78.9 lakh (both prices are ex-showroom India).

No matter which variant of the BMW Z4 you opt for, it will land in India via the CBU (completely built unit) route. And that explains its pricing. The sDrive20i can be had in two different trim levels – Sport Line and M Sport. As is the case with other BMW models, the M Sport gets more aggressive styling inside and out and carries a higher price tag than the Sport Line trim. As for the M40i, its standard version already includes the M Sport trickery. That said, there are a bunch of optional extras for both variants. More on that later.

If you choose the sDrive20i, you’ll get a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbo-petrol engine under the bonnet which is good for 197PS/320Nm, a 6.6 second-time for a sprint from nought to 100kmph and a top speed of 240kmph. The dearer M40i, on the other hand, brings a 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder turbo-petrol mill which generates 340PS/500Nm. The extra oomph and more dynamics-enhancing gizmos in the package, the BMW X4 M40i can hit 100kmph from a standstill in 4.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 250kmph. Both engines feature BMW’s mild-hybrid tech and come coupled to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Over to the list of features. As standard, the BMW Z4 brings LED-powered headlamps, taillamps, DRLs and fog lamps, auto headlamps and wipers, black soft top, 205-watt, 10-speaker sound system, two-zone climate control, electric seats with memory function for the driver, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and in-built maps and park distance control (front and rear). The options list includes adaptive headlamps, a head-up display, wireless mobile charging, active cruise control, rear-view camera, 408-watt, 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, ISOFIX anchorages and 19-inch Jet Black alloy wheels.

If you can afford one, you can order right away. If for some reason, you don’t like the new BMW Z4, you can look at the Porsche 718 Boxster, which is priced at Rs 90 lakh (ex-showroom), the Jaguar F-Type Convertible, which is priced at Rs 1.01 crore and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Cabriolet. Sure, the latter of the three alternatives is essentially a four-seater but it does offer open-top fun and is priced from Rs 64.26 lakh (ex-showroom).
