Audi has reserved the e-tron tag for its pure electric range of cars. We’ve seen it on the e-tron SUV which made its world premiere in production form last year. We also know that the second and third model to wear the e-tron badge will be the Sportback and the GT respectively. The fourth model could very well be the one we see here in sketches. It is the Audi Q4 e-tron Concept and it will be showcased in flesh at the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show (GIMS).

The company claims that the Q4 e-tron Concept will provide a glimpse of the next stage in its push towards electric mobility. Audi has also confirmed that the production version of it will be unveiled either by late 2020 or early the following year. It will be underpinned by Volkswagen Group’s MEB (modular electrification toolkit). Promising times ahead indeed!

Before the Swiss motor show opens its gates on March 5, 2019, we can take away some learnings from this teaser. The sloping roofline, pronounced wheel arches and massive wheels lead us to believe that the Concept heading to Geneva is a crossover and not an outright SUV. The front grille accompanied by an aggressive-looking bumper and slim headlamp enclosures deliver a similar outlook to the e-tron SUV. Even the angular interiors of the Q4 e-tron Concept look similar to the e-tron SUV. Another noteworthy takeaway is that Audi has chosen an even number to suffix a Q model, which means in terms of size it should sit somewhere between the Q3 and the Q5.

The production version of the Q4 e-tron will be one amongst the twelve pure electric cars that Audi aims to introduce by 2025. The Audi e-tron SUV is already on sale in international markets and will also be making its way to India in the near future. Audi will soon be unveiling its Sportback version, followed by the production version of the e-tron GT. All three models are set to be in production before 2020 comes to a close. Do the math and you’ll notice that from thereon, Audi will introduce an EV every six months (approximately) until it meets its target for 2025.
